Department Information

Liver disease is a major health problem in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In accordance with the mission of our client hospital, the department provides tertiary care for patients with liver disease. Such services are very much in demand and have contributed to the management of many Saudi patients who would have been treated abroad. This obviously resulted in tremendous savings of cost and effort. Liver Transplantation services are available in only a few centers in the Kingdom and Middle East.

Liver Transplant - The Liver Transplant Surgery Program performs both Cadaveric and Living Related Liver Transplantation Procedures for both pediatrics and adults. The only limiting factor for the expansion of the number of procedures is donor availability. The section is comprised of highly qualified surgeons capable of performing complicated procedures in the field of liver transplantation.

Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery - Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery is a specialized service dealing with surgical conditions that affect liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas and duodenum. Procedures are conducted utilizing the most updated surgical techniques and the perioperative care is supported by a comprehensive multidisciplinary team. The hospital has been recognized as a center of excellence and the major referral center for such problems.

Transplant Hepatology - The Transplant Hepatology Service is an integral part of the program. Transplantation is a complex, long-term process of which the actual surgery is the main element, however, issues related to the pre and post transplant care is of paramount importance. The transplant hepatologists address important aspects of many interrelated medically oriented issues pertaining to the transplant. Highly specialized and exceptional patient care is delivered by a joint medical and surgical team dealing with the transplant.

Prior to offering a permanent (1-2 years) contract, the hospital may invite doctors for a one-month locum. This provides an opportunity to visit the hospital, check out the department, and see Riyadh and Saudi Arabia. This gives you the time to decide if all your critical needs and desires such as geography, income potential, practice style, administrative agendas, and community profile line up with your long-term goals.
