Department Information
This Center for Childrenâs Cancer Research in Riyadh is a 40-bed hospital operates as part of our client hospital and offers both inpatient and outpatient facilities.
This is the largest program dedicated to pediatric cancer and blood disorders in the region, and the second largest internationally (second to St Jude, USA). Between 60 â 70% (approximately 350-450 new cases annually) of the Kingdomâs pediatric malignancies are cared for by the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. In addition to pediatric oncology, the program is considered the reference center in the region for the complicated non-malignant hematological disorders.
The Childrenâs Cancer Center consists of:
- Two inpatient care wards (Ward A, Ward B)
- Outpatient Department
- Walk-in clinic
- Pediatric oncology ICU
Care Ward A (CWA) is a twenty (20) bed unit, which provides acute care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients from birth to 14 years of age. The unit consists of twenty (20) positive air pressure rooms.
This child-friendly unit is located on the second level of the new expansion area of the Centre for Childrenâs Cancer (also known as CCC).
The majority of the children admitted to the center are infants, toddlers, and of pre-school age, although we do admit up to age of 14. On rare occasions, we do admit adolescents if the patient are still under the care of the pediatric hematology/oncology physician. One sitter or parent is encouraged to stay with the patient to reduce trauma of hospitalization.
