Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (online degrees/diplomas are not accepted), and
- Current Nursing (RN) license in the North America, Western Europe, or Australia/New Zealand, and
- A minimum of four years of current experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area, working in a mid- to large-sized acute-care hospital in North America, Western Europe, or Australia/New Zealand.
- Currently working in colorectal specialty area (ie. colorectal cancer, hereditary colorectal conditions, bowel disorders, stomas) is a requirement.
- Fluency in Arabic and English (both spoken and written) required.
Department Information
The Colorectal Therapy Unit provides specialized holistic patient centered services for paediatrics and adults with stomas, enterocutaneous fistula, defaecatory disorders, and adults referred to the Section of Colorectal Surgery, throughout inpatient, outpatient, and home health care settings including nurse led clinics.
Frequent procedures/services/functions:
- Holistic assessment, diagnosis and treatment of individuals with stoma, colorectal wound conditions and defaecatory disorders.
- Anorectal physiology, retraining and biofeedback treatment for patients with defaecatory disorders.
- Identification of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that may delay the patient's progress.
- Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Providing expert advice, and assisting with the plan of care for patients with stomas, enterocutaneous fistula, defaecatory disorders, and patients undergoing colorectal surgery.
- Providing assistance with specialist supplies as necessary.
- Patient and family education, counseling and support.
- Assisting with discharge planning and home supply issues.
- Providing and updating patient education material.
- Provision of an email and telephone patient helpline.
- Provision of a one week postoperative follow-up telephone service.
- Provision of a virtual defecatory disorder follow-up clinic
- Provision of a patient advocacy service for stoma patients as requested.
- Provision of a biannual ostomy patient news letter.
- Identifying educational needs of nursing staff and providing classes and materials for staff development.
- Development and provision of workshops and courses to aid advancement of skills and knowledge within the Kingdom.
- Sourcing, reviewing, trialing and assisting in the maintenance of specialist ostomy and incontinence supplies in the hospital.
- Collection and dissemination of data on patient visits.
- Involvement in research related to specialty.
- Identifying areas for performance improvement in program area, and planning, implementing and reviewing projects.
- Collection of data for the registration of patients with hereditary colorectal conditions
- Organisation and communication of investigations and appointments for colorectal cancer and familial adenomatous polyposis patients and their families
- Planning and organizing the colorectal tumour board activities
- Submission of tumour board and registry reports

0700 - 1700 Saturday to Tuesday
0700 - 1600 Wednesday
